Recovery from a Mental Health episode is a difficult journey that requires daily commitment, but it is possible with therapy and medication. CBT or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, DBT or Dialetical Behavioural Therapy, and ACT or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy are three of several therapies used to treat some illnesses.
These therapies examine and provides tools for managing your symptoms, thoughts and emotions as well as teaches acceptance for your diagnosis and how to live a healthy and productive life after a crisis.
Recovery is also about balance. Before illness, if you are honest with yourself and reflect on your personal situation you will probably realize that your life was not balanced in the areas that matter for mental wellness.
Our bodies are truly delicate temples and if we do not treat each component with care we develop health problems. Regulating our sleep, medication, diet, physical and social activity is defintely very important. With a Mental Illness if one of these areas does not fall within alignment it will tip the scale and we immediately feel the effects. That is why it is important to create and adhere to a routine in life areas after crisis.
